Dear TMSA Triangle Community,

I am thrilled to share that our high school history teacher, Dr. Neil S. Oatsvall, recently published a book entitled "Atomic Environments: Nuclear Technologies, the Natural World, and Policymaking, 1945–1960" through the University of Alabama Press.

In this book, Dr. Oatsvall challenges readers to rethink the relationship between nuclear weaponry and the natural environment. Drawing from his extensive research and insights, he provides a unique perspective that sheds light on the complex and interrelated issues surrounding this topic.

As a school principal, I am proud to have such an accomplished and inspiring educator among our faculty. Dr. Oatsvall's book is a testament to his unwavering commitment to scholarship and education and his dedication to preserving its lessons for future generations.

"I'm thrilled that it's out now!" shared Dr. Oatsvall with excitement. This book is the culmination of a decade of research, writing, and revisions, and it started as his doctoral dissertation thesis at the University of Kansas.

For Dr. Oatsvall, “research and staying active in academia are crucial to being a better teacher.” He wants his students to be up-to-date with the most current discussions in history and encourages them to read and research for themselves.

In addition to his recent book, Dr. Neil S. Oatsvall is actively engaged in various research projects. Currently, he is working on an article exploring the failed nuclear plane project, a U.S. government initiative to create an airplane powered by a nuclear reactor. He is also researching the underground testing on the Alaskan island of Amchitka. Furthermore, Dr. Oatsvall is also working on a project that explores the life and work of Miyazawa Kenji, one of the most beloved authors and poets in recent Japanese history.
